Microsoft Windows highlights, in the start menu, newly installed programs. This is done by Windows to enable computer users to easily access newly installed software. This feature is available in Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Not everybody likes this though. It does no harm to allow this feature. However, if your personal preference is for this to go away, it can. Let?s see how we can do this in various Windows operating systems. To disable this feature in Windows 7, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar and then click properties. Choose properties on the start menu on the taskbar. Next, at the start menu properties click on the start menu tab. Next, click the customize button. On the customize start menu box, uncheck Highlight newly installed programs and click ok. To disable this feature in Windows Vista, click on an empty area of the taskbar -> Click properties -> Start Menu -> Customize button -> uncheck Highlight newly installed programs and click ok. It is pretty much the same procedure as Windows 7. Disabling program highlighting in Windows XP is somewhat different from Windows Vista and Windows 7. Click on start and right-click inside the start menu -> properties-> choose the start menu tab and click customize -> click on advanced tab -> Uncheck the Highlight newly installed programs and click ok.
